019 – Saturday Morning Madness!

The one where they talk about their favorite Saturday morning cartoons.  Shows like Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Garfield, and Tiny Toons!  Honorable mentions include XMEN the Animated Series.

I enjoy animation, but stopped sampling it, for the most part, by the mid-1980s, so while I’m aware of many of these shows you speak of, and suspect some of these shows would appeal to me as an adult, I just don’t have the time.

One show that would seem tame by today’s standards, but was a favorite of mine growing up, was “Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.” I’m sure it would seem rather sanitary in comparison to contemporary superhero cartoons, but it was entertaining.

In the 70s when Hanna-Barbera ruled ABC Saturday mornings, they did a couple of seasons of Laff-A-Lympics, which brought together an amazing ensemble of Hanna-Barbera characters. This is one of the few cartoons of yesteryear I’d like to watch again some day.

Honorable mention because it’s live action: The Krofft Supershow. I’m sure the stories are embarrassing simplistic and not funny at all, and not all of them were comedy, but it was live action for a Saturday morning attention span. Of all the “shows” they produced, “Dr. Shrinker” intrigued me the most.
